Dive Phone??

I know that there are amazing cameras out there that are about a million times better than the iPone but I end up using the phone about 99% of the time when I am on land because it's just so damn convenient and its so easy to switch between HD video and photo.  That convenience is addictive and the ease with which the iMovie app can make a professional looking edited video makes the iPhone's HD video camera ideal.  Again I know that quality is more important to some people but for us dive bums and H2O junkies the new underwater housing options for the iPhone is something worth getting excited about.

There are two main options in the iPhone housing category: the iDive with a waterproof external speaker that is capable of playing tunes at a depth of 60 meters, or without an external speaker (headphones only).  There has been a lot of criticism about the ability to listen to music while diving and the inherent danger of the distraction.  I'm sure none of those self-righteous poo poo heads yelling about how worthless the iDive is have ever sat on a safety stop for fifteen minutes.  I would be willing to bet that none of the whiners are dive professionals or tech-divers.

The music is not so important for me with either of these devices though as the camera is all I really want. Both of the devices use a series of buttons to navigate the touch screen as the pressure at depth is too great for any other way.  So I guess you just turn it on and make sure that the settings are such that the phone doesn't "sleep" while your diving.

The iDive 300 with external speakers, good for 60 meters of depth, strength is media but enables the camera also.

The TAT7 without external speakers, good for 30 meters of depth, strength is camera and compact size.
